Oregon’s Premiere Chamber Orchestra

Since our founding in 1982 by a dedicated group of local professional musicians, Oregon Mozart Players has been committed to two core purposes: to perform the rich repertoire of chamber orchestra music and share this music with the Eugene-Springfield community. We take pride in presenting works for small orchestras and intimate venues, where each instrument can shine and be heard. The mission of Oregon Mozart Players is to enrich the lives of audiences and players alike through excellent performance and vigorous advocacy of chamber orchestra music.

Thank you for being part of our musical family!

Introducing David Amado

AFTER and BEFORE | Saturday, February 28th

What does it mean to look back? Our upcoming program explores three masters who turned to the past to find a new way forward. It is a journey of "backward glances," sudden transitions, and "the other side of the looking glass."

The evening opens with Pulitzer-winner Caroline Shaw’s 2011 work, Entr'acte. Inspired by a sudden shift in a Haydn quartet, Shaw pushes classical form “to the other side of Alice’s looking glass.” It is a moment of quiet dislocation—a subtle, technicolor transition into an absurd and beautiful new world.

We then travel to 1920s Paris. Originally a collaboration with Picasso and Diaghilev, Pulcinella launched Stravinsky’s Neo-classical period. By reframing the music of the past with biting irony and wit, Stravinsky found his own future. “Pulcinella was my discovery of the past... it was a backward glance, of course... but it was also a look in the mirror.”

Finally, we arrive at Mozart’s Symphony No. 40. Restless, stormy, and driven by an unmistakable sense of unease, this symphony stands on the edge of change. It is a masterpiece suspended between the balance of the Classical era and the raw urgency of the Romantic age.
