OMP Equity Call to Action

The mission of the Oregon Mozart Players (OMP) is to enrich the lives of the audience, the players, and the community alike through the excellent performance and vigorous advocacy of chamber orchestra music.

OMP believes positive social and civic impact should be an integral part of every artistic decision. We believe music does not simply start and end with notes on a page - we must acknowledge, honor, and share the history and context surrounding the composer and their music to ensure a vigorous and informed pursuit of equity, artistic belonging, access, and excellence for our audiences.

We believe the talents of the composers and musicians speak for themselves, and OMP simply serves as a conduit for showcasing, informing, and celebrating them within our community.

Though OMP has showcased talents of historically marginalized composers and musicians, we recognize the ways in which we can improve upon and maximize these opportunities. OMP is committed to further illuminating, expanding, supporting, promoting, celebrating, and empowering the robust talents of diverse high-caliber artists who are, but not limited to: female, people of color, immigrants, LGBTQ+, and people with physical and mental disabilities. We believe better representation in our programming yields better experiences, and cultivates a sense of belonging in our music communities.

To catalyze and live out these values, we will:

  • feature our artists within, but not limited to our educational and community engagement programming, as part of our endeavors in providing equitable community access

  • partner with community organizations who share, uphold, and live out these values

  • seek sponsorships and donations from those who hold these values or who are willing to understand them

  • speak with donors about these shared values and continue to seek out supporters whose values align similarly

We will continue to incorporate educational aspects in our programming, creating more holistic programmatic experiences and to further align with our mission.

We believe that music, in all its many forms, is diverse, inclusive, and a source of enjoyment for all in our community and beyond. We are committed to sharing diverse representation and experiences through our performances, our educational programs, and our community engagement to help foster deeper connections and a greater sense of belonging within the music community.
