David
Kruse is
Principal Horn of the Oregon Mozart Players, of which he has been a
member for twenty years. David has been a fixture of the musical scene
in Eugene, performing with the Eugene Symphony and the Oregon Bach
Festival. He is Principal Horn of Eugene Opera Orchestra, Portland
Chamber Orchestra, the Ernest Bloch Music Festival and the Sunriver
Music Festival.
David grew up along Lake Erie in Pennsylvania, where he began studying
the horn in the 6th grade. By the time he was a high school freshman he
played Principal Horn in the Erie Junior Philharmonic and his parents
drove him weekly for lessons with the principal of the Cleveland
Orchestra. After receiving an engineering degree at Yale, he attended
the Juilliard School in New York, earning a Bachelor's and a Master's
Degree in Music Performance.
His career has led to opportunities in many places. He was Principal
Horn of several symphony orchestras in Mexico, including that of
Mexico's national opera company. He has been the Principal Horn of the
Victoria Symphony in British Columbia, of the Festival of Two Worlds in
Spoleto, Italy and of the Greenwich Philharmonia in Connecticut. He has
been a member of the Phoenix Symphony in Arizona, the Erie Philharmonic
and the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra.
When not performing, Dave teaches electronics at Lane Community
College, skis, golfs, and hikes with his dog.
