FAURÉ                     Masques et Bergamasques
SAINT-SAËNS        Cello Concerto No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 119 (OMP Premiere)
FAURÉ                      Élégie (OMP Premiere)
POULENC                Sinfonietta

Dance your way through France on a night that opens with Fauré’s last orchestra composition, the seductively elegant Masques et Bergamasques. Guest soloist Mark Kosower, a 2017 University of Oregon Trotter Visiting Professor and principal cello of the Cleveland Orchestra, then brings his musical eloquence and enthusiasm to two emotional pieces: Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No. 2, which balances exquisite lyricism with strenuous demands on the soloist’s virtuosity; and Fauré’s Élégie, a rapturous lament that sings itself into silence. The evening ends with Poulenc’s Sinfonietta, filled with his trademark charm and wit, and overflowing with popular dance rhythms. You’ll be left shouting, “Oui! Oui!” for more.

A pre-concert talk will take place in Room 163 (next to Beall Hall). The talk begins at 6:45 p.m.

Concert sponsors: Steve & Elaine Webster and Jerry & Judy Vergamini
Soloist sponsor: Martha Steward
