Amadeus! Amadeus! Amadeus!

Saturday, February 10, 2018 — Beall Concert Hall, 7:30 p.m.

Kelly Kuo, conductor
Jeff Nelsen, horn

HINDEMITH (arr. FRANZ WILLIAMS)      Tuttifäntchen (OMP premiere)
MOZART                                                              Horn Concerto No. 3 in E-flat Major, K. 447 (OMP premiere)
MOZART                                                              Symphony No. 30 in D Major, K. 202
MOZART                                                              Horn Concerto No. 4 in E-flat Major, K. 495 (OMP premiere)

OMP lives up to its namesake in this concert featuring three OMP premieres, including Mozart’s Symphony No. 30. But first, Hindemith’s Tuttifäntchen Suite, where the simple, direct, and beautiful music tells the story of a puppet who comes to life and causes trouble. The captivating evening turns to Jeff Nelsen, formerly of Canadian Brass, who gives a truly Fearless Performance (the title of his recent TedX talk and his company) as he plays two of Mozart’s four horn concertos — tour-de-forces written for the valveless hunting horn. It’s a concert of lesser-known masterpieces, whimsy, a rarely-featured solo instrument — and Mozart!

A pre-concert talk will take place at 6:45 p.m.
